10 years ago, 2010 — The music on Mt. Rushmore Road in Custer went silent. If the city wanted it back, it had to pony up some cash. That’s because the city was informed by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers that it had been violating the law by transmitting music through loudspeakers via Sirius Radio for the past few years ... Custer City Council was weighing removing a power pole from Pageant Hill. The pole had become a safety concern, and needing power at the hill wasn’t much of an issue after the Pageant of Paha Sapa was discontinued.
