I plan to reintroduce property tax bill

Greetings. Every place I go every one approaches me about property tax relief. Some even say that I promised property tax relief. I did promise I would try and Rep. Ladner and Sen. Hulse and I most definitely did try. They can give you a rundown of their property tax bills. I’ll do just mine in this article.

Barefoot summers, back to school blues

Back to school. It’s full of excitement and anticipation. 
I appreciate the structure that comes with the school year. Morning routines, fairly defined parameters and set bedtimes that aren’t constantly being negotiated. 
But to be honest, I also mourn the end of our “feral summers.” The gloriously warm months where the kids, and let’s face it— me — are barefoot more often than not. Our mornings are for the most part leisurely and bedtimes are fluid. I start to think that the only reason we have a house is because it came with the patio. 

Drugs are prevalent in state prison

Greetings. Let’s talk some more about the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls. 
Much has been said about the pen’s ancient building as it was built in 1881. Well, let’s look at that a little further. The portion of the pen they call “The Hill” is where the main population is housed. As of the end of May there are 724 inmates. My info says it holds 800. Next, there is a maximum security Jamison Unit with around 500 inmates and then another 140 or so in a work-release, relaxed prison. Add that up and we are at 1,364.

Enjoyed celebrating Custer’s 150th birthday

Sunday, I had the opportunity to attend the City of Custer’s 150th birthday celebration, a significant milestone! The event was held at the 1881 Courthouse Museum. There was birthday cake, an arrowhead treasure hunt for the kids, a historical walking tour, live music, lots of yard games and activities for everyone to enjoy. It was an afternoon filled with history, stories and a lot of community fun. 

I survived the 85th

I’m thinking about creating a shirt that reads, “I survived the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.”
Wow. It was a brutal one. 
From a motorcyclist’s perspective the extra dumb was extra dumb. I have been riding a Harley for 30 years. I have crossed two continents, ridden in five countries and have put over 230,000 miles on bikes. Every time I get on my two wheels, I practice all the lessons I learned in my motorcycle safety class I took in 1995. I never once take motorcycling for granted. Riding is a skill. It’s a hobby. And it’s a risk.

Regarding Hwy. 385 work, gerrymandering

Greetings. So, how did you survive the 85th annual bike rally? Marcia and my piece of heaven is alongside Hwy. 385. We have bike traffic at least until 11 p.m., and then it starts up again about one hour after the Buffalo Chip closes down, so, say 3 p.m. the bikes go roaring by. After the rally, we locals, as well as visitors, take Hwy. 385 to go north from Three Forks to Deadwood. A lot of times I stop on the way. Now the Sugar Shack is rebuilt after a fire, and its bigger and better than before.

Strong, safe and free. Our state is all three of those things, and it’s my mission as your governor to keep it that way. When it comes to safety, one of our biggest opportunities to move the needle is in Sioux Falls—and that’s what my administration will accomplish with Operation: Prairie Thunder.

Greetings. It is with a sad heart that I write this article. Last week we buried Sen. Mike Diedrich, same age as me, age 70. Mike finally went home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Most senators are born on third base and they think they hit a triple. Not Sen. Diedrich, as we served in the House together for four years before he went over to the Senate. Here are a couple of take-aways from my friend Mike.
• Leave the woodpile higher than you found it.
• Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story (LOL)

Some property tax proposals won’t work

Like many of you, I’ve felt the sting of rising property taxes—especially as a homeowner. The burden keeps growing, and for many families, it’s becoming unmanageable. I hear your frustration, and I share it.
South Dakota relies heavily on property taxes to fund our K-12 schools and local government services. In fact, our state constitution requires it. But that doesn’t mean we can’t demand a better, fairer system—one that doesn’t crush single-family homeowners in the process.

Every generation has them. The icons of an era. The actors, musicians, writers who, when they pass, make you feel.
Ozzy was my icon.
For some he was Ozzy Osbourne. In my world he was just Ozzy.
I knew the name from a very young age.
His music was a part of my life.
I was and still am a heavy metal kind of girl.
And no one was more metal than Ozzy.
For those who only know the image, the titles of songs or even the dad from reality television I think you are missing the true Ozzy.
