David Tripp

The world lost a vibrant spirit with the passing of David Tripp of Custer, S.D., July 2, 2026.
Born June 17, 1983, in Yankton, S.D., David’s life was an embodiment of warmth, humor, and steadfast dedication to family and community.
David was known for his clever wit and charm. Though he never quite earned a diploma from Gayville-Volin (S.D.) High School, his education in the School of Hard Knocks equipped him with wisdom and resilience that he carried throughout his life. His journey saw him become affectionately known as “the tire guy,” and later, after relocating to the Black Hills, he pursued his passion for cars and became a technician for Ford Motor Company.
When his health began to decline he started a mowing business, which he ran with the cherished support of his family.
David’s heart was as expansive as the landscapes he loved. An avid fan of NASCAR, he shared countless afternoons with his Grandma Betty, cheering on Dale Sr. His loyalty to the Denver Broncos was unwavering, but it was his commitment to his family that truly defined him. He shared his love for the outdoors with them through cookouts and evenings by the fire pit, or, playing a round of board games.
On Nov. 28, 2023, David married his beloved Terra in a heartfelt ceremony in Deadwood, S.D.
David was a proud father to Annabelle (Aaron), Kiona (Aidan), Jasper, Adrianna, Chloe and stepchildren Traiton, Christina and Corbin. He delighted in the role of Papa to Ashlynn, and his joyous spirit touched the lives of his nieces, nephew and the many children he took under his wing.
David is survived by his devoted parents, Wes and June Tripp; his loving sisters, Julie (Bill) Babcock and Traci (Josh) Hoffart; and a large extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who cherished his presence.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Betty Quick and Dennis and Kathleen Tripp; and his uncle, Tim Tripp.
As he wished, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his memory to The American Diabetes Association to help research for a cure for diabetes.
