Golfers compete on home course
The Custer High School golf team played its way to a sixth-place finish in a warmup for the upcoming region meet, firing a 363. The meet was played at Southern Hills Golf Course in Hot Springs.
Custer was led by Regan Sorenson, who played his way to a top-10 finish with a round of 84. The rest of the Wildcats finished in a closely-bunched group, including Lane Graf at 92, Bodie Van Der Boom at 93, Brady Virtue 84, Dillon Hanis 94 and Curtis Sorenson 94.
Hayden Heig of St. Thomas More was medalist at the meet with a one-under 69, and the Cavaliers also won the meet with a score of 304.
Curtis Sorenson shot a season-best 77 to lead the team to a fifth-place finish at the Custer Invitational golf tournament last Thursday at Rocky Knolls Golf Course.
The Wildcats finished fifth as a team at the meet, finishing with a total of 335 strokes. St. Thomas More won the team championship at 298.
Mason Dirkes fired a round of 82 for Custer, while VanDerBoom shot 90, Regan Sorenson shot 95 and Hanis finished with a 97.
Braeden Strain of St. Thomas More took home medalist honors with a round of 72.
Custer did have a second team compete on the home course, and it finished with a team score of 391, paced by Phoenix Barrick’s 106 and Brennon Gangel’s 109.
The Wildcats are back on their home course next Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 9 a.m. for the Black Hills Conference Meet.
