Michael Trant

Michael Louis Trant, 73, passed away while under the care of Beacon Independency Center formarly “Renew."

Michael was born to Thomas Allan Trant Sr. and Mary Louise Thebo Trant March 5, 1953 in Rapid City S.D.

They lived in Rapid City, S.D., Seattle, Wash., Springfeild, Mass/, and Custer, S.D. Michael at a young age had an unfortunate incident that left him permanently mentally and physically disabled. He had 24- hour care by his family but was loved no less. He was cared for by his mother, grandparents and siblings for many years until it was physically impossible for family to keep him at home. Mikey was placed in a care center in Redfield, S.D., for extensive care and therapy. There was hope for him to walk but unfortunately it wasn't successful. He arrived back home in Custer and entered Custer State Hospital for care. In the '90s the State Hospital was closing, Mikey's mother wanted him closer to her, she moved him to Renew in Sheridan, Wyo. This was his final move. The staff at Renew were loving and took excellent care for Mikey. Renew cared for him for many years. Renew became his extended family and he thrived under their care and his wonderful case worker, Nicole. Renew changed hands to Beacon Independency Center. Michael remained under their care until the day he passed away.

On May 17, 2026, he left us way to soon and the circumstances are heartbreaking. Michael will be missed and his family had high hopes he would out live them all.

Survives include sisters, Becky (Gary) Null, Monica (Pete) Johner, Cathy (Mark) Engleman; brothers, Mario (Marika) Aldrete; nieces, Crystal Kraski, Leah (Drew) Borseth, Peyton Johner, Alyssa Johner, Marisa (Greg) Gromski, Jessica (TJ) Spangler.; nephews, Adam Swenson, Chad (Tabitha) McCarty, Peter Johner Jr. , Josh Mustain, Christopher Aldrete, Tommy Trant, Aaron Engleman; and many great nieces and nephews.

Michael was proceeded in death by his mother, Mary (Thebo) Aldrete; grandparents, Louis and Helen Thebo; uncle, Gene Thebo, and uncle Gary McCarty; brothers, Steven Trant and Tom Trant; nephew, Petey Johner; and numerous other family members.

Michael will be sadly missed but forever deeply loved by all who truly knew him throughout the years we had him with us.
