Bargain hunters and community supporters alike have a reason to get out this weekend as the Hill City Senior Center hosts its annual all-but-average rummage sale.
Unlike traditional rummage sales with price tags and negotiations, “You pick out what you want and make your donation as you leave with your merchandise,” said Merle Glenn of the senior center. “It gives people opportunities, and it really helps us out.”
This one-of-a-kind sale isn’t just about great finds, it is one of the center’s largest fundraisers of the year. All proceeds benefit the senior center, and its many programs and community outreach.
“We try to reach out, and see that people are taken care of and the seniors have things to do,” said Glenn.
There will be lots to choose from, and with items both inside and out, there’s sure to be something for everyone.
“We have an amazing amount of things to choose from this year, some really quality items,” said Glenn.
Along with rummage sale items, there will also be larger scale silent auction items such as a new 55 inch TV and some art pieces.
To sweeten the deal, cinnamon rolls will be available during the sale.
“Eat a cinnamon roll while you’re wandering around or sit out on the deck and visit,” said Glenn.
The sale is Saturday, July 12, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. However, eager shoppers can get a head start with an exclusive sneak peak sale  Friday from noon to 2 p.m. Admission to the preview sale requires a donation of one or two canned food items that will be collected for the Hill City Food Pantry.
“The last hour we give people a bag, and they can put anything they want in it and fill that bag up for a dollar,” Glenn said. “So that’s kind of fun.”
“It’s quite an annual event for the seniors,” said Glenn. “We really try to make it nice for everybody.”
