The Un-United States of America

Rep. Tim Goodwin

I couldn’t be more disappointed with our federal government shut down. I have an idea‚ let’s go back to being the United States of America, not the Un-United States.
This partisan politics has to end. I believe both parties are to blame. To end the shut down, we need 60 senators to vote to accept the budget. In the senate there are 53 republicans, 45 democrats and two independents. We need a vote of 60 to bring the shut down to an end. Republican Rand Paul has voted with the dems to keep the shut down continuing. Because of that, we need eight U.S. senators to switch their position to open up the government.
Here is where I’m extremely disappointed in our lack of leadership by our president. During his speech in Israel, we got 20 hostages back in return for releasing 2,000 plus hardened terrorists in exchange. What should scare all of us is what the 2,000 terrorists are doing right now. But that’s not what I’m upset about.
During our president’s speech to the whole world he had to make remarks that President Biden was the worst president in U.S. history and then went on to say words to the effect that President Obama was nearly as bad! Now, what in the world does that have to do with signing a peace treaty and getting the 20 hostages back? This isn’t the leadership needed to get some (eight) of the democrats to vote with him to end the shut down. There was no need for those remarks.
Here we are, signing a peace treaty in Israel and he’s cementing our shut down even more by super alienating the Democrat senators.
Now that I’m venting about our president Trump let-downs, let me continue. This Nobel Peace Prize obsession isn’t something you put yourself in for. In fact, how about recognizing your staff and you, Mr. President, nominate secretary of state Marco Rubio for the Nobel Peace Prize. He’s the one behind the scenes doing the heavy lifting in this regard.
My last point, bragging about how we’re the richest nation in the world, even saying we’re getting filthy rich off tariff mandates, seems to change daily.
Now we have a 100 percent tariff on all China products. Consequently China hasn’t purchased its usual huge buy of U.S. soybeans. So, who’s winning here? Not our farmers.
So, Mr. President, if we are so rich, let’s pay off the $36 trillion national debt. Nary a word about that. Now that’s a novel idea! Our interest on this debt is over $1 trillion per year, which is more than it costs us taxpayers for our entire Department of War!
By the way, I do like that name change.
