The annual Buffalo Gap Blowout is set for this weekend, with a variety of activities that begin at 6 p.m. Friday night with a youth rodeo. The rodeo is held at the Buffalo Gap arena one-quarter mile east of Buffalo Gap.
The action starts Saturday at 11 a.m. with a parade down Main Street, followed by goat roping at 1 p.m.
The action will switch back to the rodeo arena at 5 p.m. for the ranch rodeo calcutta, followed by mutton bustin’ at 5:30 p.m.

Street closures for Gold Discovery Days weekend will begin next week. The carnival will be set up on Washington Street between 8th Street and 6th Street, as well as on south 7th Street. Those streets will be closed from 6 a.m. Sunday, July 13, until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22 to allow for the setup and takedown of the carnival. Additionally, Washington Street from 6th Street to 4th Street will be closed from 8 a.m. Thursday, July 17, through Sunday, July 20, for the placement of the arts and crafts fair vendors, including food trucks.

If you see this year’s Buffalo Chip poster model and swear she looks familiar, you’re probably right.
That’s because this year’s contest winner is Denaye Austad, a part-time Custer resident, content creator for a variety of brands on social media and bartender at the Gold Pan Saloon.
In fact, it was at the Gold Pan where Austad initially qualified to advance in the competition to become the poster model, as she began her journey to beat out dozens of other girls for the right to be the face of the Buffalo Chip Campground during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
