Thursday, July 10
10:02 p.m.: A maroon sedan was seen speeding southbound on Hwy. 79 with no lights on near Fairburn. The sinister sedan suspect suddenly disappeared…or turned on their lights.
Get those prescriptions filled early, fill those gas tanks and get ready to hear visitors rev those engines—the 85th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is upon us.
The rally officially begins Friday and runs through Aug. 10. When motorcycle enthusiasts arrive, the town of Custer will be ready for them with special Custer Cruisin’ events planned, bike-themed street vendors and of course restaurants and hotels ready to feed and board the riders.

Alex and Holly Niemann opened their new business, located in the former home of Denial South Dakota, Memorial Day weekend after a several-year renovation and start-up process.
Previously, Alex had told the former owner, Mike Dewsbury, that he was interested in purchasing the building. So when Dewsbury was ready to retire, he contacted Alex. Five days later, the Niemanns closed on the building. That was in September 2023.
Local veteran Donna Talley recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to receive a certificate of appreciation as the South Dakota Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Outstanding State Member for honoring Vietnam veterans.
Talley has been involved with DAR for over 15 years and currently serves as the vice regent and chaplain for the Harney Peak Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), which was founded in 1949.

Friday, July 4
12:17 p.m.: A male called 911 from Jewell Road to report “two kids, one white and one black” in his house with guns. Deputies responded to the report very cautiously and found nothing reported there was true. They did leave the reporting person, a 64-year-old Custer male, a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.
